Performed by a stunningly talented all-child cast, London Children’s Ballet productions are the best way to introduce young audiences to ballet. The Secret Garden will be LCB’s first ever one-act ballet, and is beautifully narrated to help younger audience members.

‘When Mary Lennox was sent to Misselthwaite Manor to live with her uncle, everybody said she was the most disagreeable-looking child ever seen…’

Mary Lennox, heroine of The Secret Garden, has always been a great favourite among children. The ballet opens in the colourful setting of colonial India. Mary’s elegant mother is far too vain to pay attention to her rather plain and sullen daughter, and spoils her with presents instead of showing her love. When the little girl is suddenly orphaned, she is packed off to England to live with her reclusive Uncle.

The blunt ways of her Uncle’s Yorkshire household are a shock for spoilt Mary, and the household servants persist in trying to cheer her up. But great mystery surrounds the great house with the sound of crying in the night, whispering in the corridors and finally the rumours of a forbidden locked secret garden.

With the help of a cheeky robin and new found friends, Mary discovers the secret garden. Magical friendships forms, and Mary blossoms with the trees and flowers as the warm weather turns The Secret Garden into a small paradise in the midst of the bleak Yorkshire landscape.

Suitable for children ages 3+.
