Opera North opens its first season at the Barbican with Tchaikovsky’s tale of greed, gambling and madness, The Queen Of Spades.

Herman is desperate to discover a secret that will guarantee him eternal wealth – the secret of the three cards. But when fate deals against him, desire turns to compulsion. Gripped by madness, he gambles with both love and life, and loses at both.

This prestigious new production of The Queen Of Spades is conducted by Opera North’s Music Director Richard Farnes.

A work of vast emotional scale, The Queen Of Spades brims with drama and passion, displaying the full breadth of Tchaikovsky’s genius.
