Featuring some of Kenneth Macmillan’s most extraordinary and demanding choreography, The Prince Of The Pagodas combines all the entrancing elements of a fairytale with an additional psychological dimension, rooting the ballet in the real world of human experience.

An aged ruler divides his kingdom between his two daughters. Princess Épine receives the smaller share and in revenge turns her sister’s suitor into a salamander. Rose must enter a magical world to find her Prince.

Following the original production in 1957, which was choreographed by John Cranko and featured a specially commissioned score by Benjamin Britten, The Prince Of The Pagodas was restaged by Macmillan in 1989.
