Funny, tender-hearted and dark, The New Electric Ballroom is a coiled, dark, glitter-dusted fable of the emotionally stultifying effects of small-town life. Three sisters living in a remote fishing village in Ireland are trapped in the years that have passed since their halycon days at the New Electric Ballroom and are obsessed by darker memories of something resembling romance.

Irish playwright Walsh’s previous plays include Disco Pigs, Bedbound, Small Things and The Walworth Farce, all of which have been staged in London. The New Electric Ballroom is a companion piece to The Walworth Farce, which played at the National Theatre last year.

Walsh also directs this production for Druid theatre company.
