David Eldridge’s new play The Knot Of The Heart follows the beautiful and privileged Lucy, who is enjoying a burgeoning career in television. But her social drug habit has become a serious addiction, casting a dark shadow over her future happiness. As her charmed life begins to slip away, Lucy comes to realise that the devoted support of her family does not come without a price.

The Knot Of The Heart marks the first time Eldridge’s work has returned to the Almeida theatre since the success of 2004’s Festen. His other work includes Market Boy and Under The Blue Sky.

The part of Lucy in The Knot Of The Heart was written specifically for actress Lisa Dillon, whose previous Almeida theatre credits include When The Rain Stops Falling, Period Of Adjustment and Hedda Gabler. Dillon, who also appears in the Old Vic productions of Design For Living and A Flea In Her Ear, is best known on television for her performance as Mary Smith in Cranford.

The Almeida theatre production of The Knot Of The Heart is a world premiere.
