Based on a story by Philip Pullman, The Firework-Maker’s Daughter is a tale of magic, courage and companionship is an operatic theatrical event for the whole family, telling the story of a young girl with dreams of becoming a famous firework-maker.

Demonstrating the place that fantasy holds in the world, Lila is desperate to follow in her father’s footsteps and become a firework-maker. But he crushes her hopes, claiming it is no profession for a girl.

Determined to prove him wrong, she runs away to learn the trade with friend Chulak and the lovesick white elephant Hamlet. Along the way, she encounters pirates, tigers, the terrifying Fire-Fiend… and extraordinary adventure.

Featuring masterfully crafted shadow puppetry from group Indefinite Articles and a colourful sound world of often breath-taking beauty by composer David Bruce, this is an operatic and visual delight suitable for all ages.
