Jonathan Miller’s affectionately comic take on The Elixir Of Love, Donizetti’s bittersweet rural romance, set in and around a 1950s American diner, was a huge hit when it made its English National Opera debut in 2010.

It is now given its first revival with an exciting, fresh cast.

Dazzling young soprano Lucy Crowe – who made an impressive ENO debut as Poppea in 2007’s Agrippina – sings the adorable Adina. Fast-rising tenor Ben Johnson (Kathleen Ferrier Award Winner 2008) and baritone Benedict Nelson (The Daily Telegraph’s ‘Best Newcomer’ of 2009) play the nerdy grease-monkey and the gum-chewing GI who both vie for her affections. Andrew Shore returns as The Elixir Of Love’s slick love potion salesman, reviving a performance that earned him an Olivier Award nomination for Outstanding Achievement in Opera.~

When The Elixir Of Love was first staged in 2010 it was described as “joyous enough to whet even the most jaded palate” by the Mail on Sunday.
