This Christmas Tacit Theatre will tell seven of Chaucer’s classic Canterbury Tales at Southwark Playhouse, less than a mile from the Tabard Inn, where the pilgrims began their journey.

A fresh re-telling of the stories, this version of The Canterbury Tales creates the atmosphere of a medieval tavern, with informal seating, foot-stomping live music and a bar selling ale in pewter tankards and mulled wine.

The evening is hosted by the landlord of the Tabard, Harry Bailey, who welcomes the patrons of the inn to hear a re-enactment of the stories by a group of travelling players. The seven tales (including The Knight’s, Miller’s and Wife of Bath’s tales) show how the themes are as relevant today as they were in the 14th century.
