A number of mysterious disppearances leads to confusion and fear throughout London, but at least there are Mrs Lovett’s deliciously meaty pies to look forward to…

Rejected by his parents and shunned by society, Sweeney Todd, the demon barber of Fleet Street wreaks his terrible revenge on the people of Victorian London.

The most operatic of Stephen Sondheim’s musical arrives at the opera with a star-studded cast which features Thomas Allen in the role of Todd and Felicity Palmer as the grotesque Mrs Lovett. Sweeney Todd will be conducted by Paul Gemignani who will be making his opera house debut. Gemignani conducted the original Broadway production of Sweeney Todd in 1979 and he has worked extensively with Sondheim’s musicals, including Pacific Overtures, A Little Night Music and Sunday In The Park With George. Neil Armfield will direct the production.
