Based on Arthur Ransome’s classic children’s tale, Swallows And Amazons is a story of exotic childhood adventure in the Lake District.

The 1929 school holidays find the Walker and Blackett children sailing their dinghies, the Swallow and the Amazon, in the English Lake District. Their tale of youthful imagination and adventurous exploits on Wildcat Island features savages, dastardly pirates and mortal enemies.

This production of Swallows And Amazons was first seen at the Bristol Old Vic in 2010, where it was hailed a critical hit.

Swallows And Amazons features music by singer, lyricist and composer Neil Hannon, who is best known for his work with the band The Divine Comedy, but has also written for film and TV, including Father Ted and The IT Crowd. This is his first musical theatre project.

Swallows And Amazons also reunites two of the team that made the National Theatre’s family hit War Horse so successful, Director Tom Morris and Director of Movement Toby Sedgewick.

Swallows And Amazons is suitable for theatregoers aged six and older.
