Rodelinda is an epic story of love, power and mistaken identity. Bertarido has been driven from his kingdom by Grimoaldo and is presumed dead, leaving behind his grieving wife, Rodelinda. Grimoaldo will imprison Rodelinda unless she agrees to marry him, thereby allowing him to seize Bertarido’s throne for himself. But then the exiled king returns in disguise…

Widely considered one of Handel’s operatic masterpieces, Rodelinda is infused with compelling characters and ravishing music. Director Richard Jones, whose recent ENO successes include Julietta and The Tales Of Hoffmann, brings his own inimitable theatrical style to this, the first professional London staging of the work in many years.

Conducted by Baroque specialist Christian Curnyn, ‘whose exquisite conducting is near-perfect’ (The Guardian on Medea), the stellar cast includes acclaimed Handelians soprano Rebecca Evans, countertenor Iestyn Davies, tenor John Mark Ainsley and mezzo-soprano Susan Bickley.
