A tragic story of passion, revenge and sacrifice, focused on lowly jester Rigoletto, the daughter he loves and the Duke he serves. Deceived by those he mocks, Rigoletto unknowingly assists in the abduction of his own daughter, Gilda. Hatred and the desire for vengeance overwhelm him, which inevitably leads to more pain and sacrifice in this heartbreaking tale.

Acclaimed director Christopher Alden explores Verdi’s story through the patriarchal environment of a 19th-century gentleman’s club, with sumptuous costumes and rich period detail.

Featuring some of Verdi’s most immediately recognisable music, including La donna è mobile, this is a must-see new production of a classic of the opera repertoire.

Rigoletto stars baritone Quinn Kelsey in the title role, while ENO regulars soprano Anna Christy and leading bel canto tenor Barry Banks sing their roles for the first time. Making his first return to ENO in many years is British conductor Graeme Jenkins, the long-time Music Director of the Dallas Opera.
