In this double bill The Royal Ballet celebrates Frederick Ashton and his legacy in two contrasting works, Rhapsody and The Two Pigeons.

Created in 1980, Rhapsody is one of Ashton’s final works. Created for Mikhail Baryshnikov, it is a celebration of the male virtuoso, though Ashton also endows the Principal female role with choreography of breathtaking clarity and speed.

Not seen at the Royal Opera House since 1985, his 1962 piece The Two Pigeons is a quintessential Ashton work. In his story of a wayward young man blind to the value of what is right in front of him, Ashton explores the nature of love in one of his most charming, elegant and moving works.
