October 1972. In a city soewhere in the American Midwest, Carla is trying to rebuild her life. Her husband is gone – killed in Vietnam. Now, under the watchful eye of her mother in law, she must raise her young son whilst struggling to avoid the morbid sympathy of her local community. But everything changes when an unexpected and mysterious soldier arrives on her doorstep.

This is the first professional revival, and UK premiere, of this major early work from Bruce Norris, the Pulitzer Prize winning writer of Clybourne Park. Punctuated with sharp wit, Purple Heart is a deeply moving meditation on love, loss and grief.
