The first African-American opera tells of Koanga, an African prince sold into slavery and a world of treachery. Written in the 19th century, the opera confronts issues of racial and cultural conflict, inter-racial love and betrayal.

The Pegasus Opera Company employs soloists, dancers and an orchestra and chorus numbering 86 to perform Delius’s opera.
