The Old Vic recreates its in-the-round auditorium for the UK premiere of hit US family drama Other Desert Cities.
For the first time in six years, Brooke Wyeth is heading home to her family in Palm Springs. Little do her Republican parents, her recovering alcoholic aunt or her brother know that Brooke has news that will shake them to the core. She is on the brink of publishing a memoir about the family that will expose a key moment in their turbulent past. Understandably her actions push relationships to breaking point.
Fierce and humorous drama Other Desert Cities premiered at New York’s Lincoln Centre in 2010 before moving to Broadway, where it received five Tony Award nominations and was a finalist for the 2012 Pulitzer Prize for drama.
Its writer, Jon Robin Baitz, is prolific for both stage and screen. He created and produced the TV series Brothers And Sisters, wrote for The West Wing and Alias, and has written plays including The Substance Of Fire, Ten Unknowns and A Fair Country, which was also a Pulitzer Prize finalist.
The Old Vic’s in-the-round space was first created in 2008 for the hit production of The Norman Conquests. It is supported by global multi strategy asset management firm CQS.
