Followng the critical acclaim of her first play, Shakespeare For My Father and the success of The Madrake Root – loosley based on her mother, the New End Theatre is pleased to announce that Lynn Redgrave’s latest play Nightingale, will open their 2006 spring season. Inspired by memories of the playwrights maternal garndmother, Beatrice Kempson, mother of the late Rachel Kempson (Lady Redgrave), Nightingale is the story of Mildred Asher whose voice, like the song of the Nightingale, can only be heard in the dark. A bitter sweet tale told with wit and compassion, Nightingale is a fitting tribute to family, frienship and the savagery of time and obligation.
