Based on best-selling culinary author Nigel Slater‘s award-winning autobiography, Toast is the moving story of a childhood told through tastes and smells.

Critically acclaimed at both The Lowry in Salford and the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 2018, Nigel Slater’s Toast tickets also include the opportunity for audiences to sample the dishes and tastes central to Nigel’s story during the show.

Named the Biography of the Year at the British Book Awards, Toast recreates the sururban England of the 1960s. From crafting the perfect sherry trifle to waging war over cakes, and the playground politics of sweets to the rigid rules of restaurants, the play is a moving, evocative tale of love, loss, and toast.

Written by Henry Filloux-Bennett (who formerly worked with Gordon Ramsey at Claridge’s) and directed by Jonnie Riordan, Toast is based on the life of Slater, author and presenter of nine BBC television series, and the food columnist for The Observer for 25 years. Audiences shouldn’t fill up too much beforehand – they’ll be offered samples of the integral dishes throughout!

His book Toast – The Story Of A Boy’s Hunger was translated into five languages, won six major awards, and was adapted into a 2010 BBC film (later released in cinemas in 2011) starring the likes of Freddie Highmore, Helena Bonham Carter, Ken Stott and Oscar Kennedy.

The London theatrical debut of Toast stars Giles Cooper, Lizzie Muncey, Stephen Ventura, Marie Lawrence, Jake Ferretti, Stefan Edwards and Samantha Hopkins.
