Award-winning British choreographer Matthew Bourne returns to Sadler’s Wells with a new version of The Nutcracker. The former Adventures in Motion Pictures choreographer is sure to turn some conventions on their head as he did with his successful interpretations of Swan Lake, Cinderella and The Car Man (based on Bizet’s Carmen). Bourne promises to take us from a Christmas Eve at Dr. Dross’ Orphanage, through a shimmering ice-skating wonderland, to the spectacular candy folk of Sweetieland. Oliver Twist, the Icecapades and the kaleidoscopic fantasy of Busby Berkeley musicals will all feature on the way.
