A new production to the Royal Opera House, David Poutney directs his own translation of Nielsen’s comic opera.

Leander’s father Jeronimus has decreed that his son must marry Leonora, but Leander is infatuated with a girl he met at a masked ball. It’s a sticky situation, but, with the help of faithful servant Henrik, one that is bound to have a happy ending.

John Del Carlo plays the preoccupied patriarch, while the lovers-to-be are played by Michael Schade and Emma Bell in their Royal Opera debuts.
