The Olivier Award-winning cabaret spectacular La Soirée returns to London’s Theatreland this Christmas, taking up residency in a West End theatre for the very first time.
A theatrical phenomenon with devotees around the world, La Soirée has previously delighted the Christmas crowds in a Spiegeltent which has moved about London. But this festive season, the jaw-dropping, death-defying showcase settles in the West End’s beautifully refurbished Aldwych Theatre. Prepare for a night of thrills, shocks, laughter and sheer disbelief.
Having now been performed in over 25 cities across five continents, La Soirée originally heralded from the fringe scene, celebrating performers from the fringes of the performing arts world across the globe. It originally debuted in Edinburgh in 2004 as La Clique, winning an Olivier Award for Best Entertainment in 2008, before becoming known as La Soirée in 2010, a show also acknowledged at the highest level in 2015 with an Olivier Award for Best Entertainment & Family. Acts can vary from night to night, but always feature no small helping of mischievous comedy.
Acts this year include Mallakhamb India!, featuring Rajesh Amrale and Rajesh Rao. Rarely performed outside of its homeland India, the amazing ancient art of Mallakhamb arrives on the West End stage, with this pair of awesome acrobats blowing audiences away with their extraordinary mix of unparalleled strength, sensational speed and spectacular skill.
The line-up also includes new La Soirée performers in six-time German Rhythmic Gymnastics Champion, Lea Hinz, who gives the aerial hoop a unique spin; home-grown Hackney talent Marles, who takes aerial straps to new heights; the darling dexterous Michele Clark on the hula hoop; hair-hanger Fancy Chance; hand-to-hand performers Leon Fagbemi and Klodi Dabkiewicz; and Symoné on the hula hoops.
Returning favourites to the La Soirée family include the inimitable comic powerhouse Amy G, puppet cabaret performers Cabaret Decadense – rollicking, sassy, sexy and hilarious – and vaudevillian duo Daredevil Chicken Club.
With its heady cocktail of intimate cabaret, new burlesque, circus sideshow and contemporary variety set to play in a grander new home, West End audiences will surely welcome the chance to witness La Soirée’s motley crew of talented cabaret performers and circus sideshow misfits revelling in their posh new surroundings.
Expect a mesmerising hybrid of sideshow, vaudeville & burlesque – come one, come all, and come often, to the delicious, deviant and delirious La Soirée!
Please note: ‘Ringside/stalls’ seats are arranged around the circular stage in the stalls, offering an intimate experience of the show together with the chance to get up close and personal with the performers. ‘Posh seats’ include a reserved table with table service before and throughout the performance.
