The young and beautiful Lise finds herself about to be married off by her mother, Widow Simone, to Alain, the idiot son of a local wealthy farmer. Her real affections are for the poor farmer Colas, but through cunning and comedic skill, true love is triumphant and the Widow’s designs are well and truly thwarted.
