Kursk is a powerfully immersive theatrical experience inspired by the 2000 Russian submarine disaster from the company who created The Watery Part of the World (BAC) and Ether Frolics (with artists from the Shunt Collective).

Sound&Fury and playwright Bryony Lavery combinein Kursk to recreate the extraordinary life of submariners fathoms below the arctic seas, isolated and invisible, Armageddon at their fingertips.

Kursk transports the Young Vic audience to the world of command and control, of dark secrecy and unbreakable codes, bombarding them with 360 degree audio and plunging them into blackout as intensely personal stories emerge from an intensely public crisis.

Kursk playwright Lavery’s previous work includes the award-winning Frozen, Stockholm, Last Easter, The Magic Toyshop and translations of Uncle Vanya and A Doll’s House.
