The History Boys - NT Lyttelton 05

Alan Bennet’s comedy drama takes place during the 1980s in a grammar school in the north of England. The tale concerns a set of male students preparing to take Oxford and Cambridge entrance exams and the ways that the different teachers choose to influence their abilities.

A drama about adolescent schoolboys. A group of bright, funny sixth-form boys in pursuit of sex, sport and a place at university. A maverick English teacher at odds with the young and shrewd supply teacher. A headmaster obsessed with results, and a history teacher who thinks he’s a fool.

Olivier, Evening Standard, Critics’ Circle and South Bank Show Awards for Best New Play.

Desmond Barrit plays Hector, following his acclaimed performance in A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum.
