Tim Minchin and Danny Rubin join forces to pen a musical adaptation of the story of Phil Connors, a cynical weatherman with the world’s worst case of déjà vu.
Phil Connors is an embittered and hardened Pittsburgh TV weatherman dispatched to cover the annual Groundhog Day event in the sleepy town of Punxsutawney, much to his chagrin.
But waking up on what is, presumably, the next day, Connors finds himself still on Groundhog Day, events mirroring themselves exactly – he is trapped, destined to live out the same 24 hours over and over (and over) again.
As the repetitious cycle makes Connors increasingly despondent, is there a lesson to be learnt which might just break the loop?
With direction from Artistic Director of The Old Vic Matthew Warchus, music and lyrics by Minchin, choreography by Peter Darling, and design by Rob Howell, four of the creators of musical sensation Matilda The Musical reunite in collaboration with Rubin on a staged version of his 1993 contemporary classic film.
Tony Award-nominated Andy Karl plays Connors in the show’s world premiere at the Old Vic.
Age recommendation: 13+.
