Not a Fairy Tale is a collage of Russia’s favourite stories turned on their head: Red Riding Hood is beaten to death by hungry urchins, the Frog Princess is fried up for dinner and the villainous dragon Gorynich becomes an innocent victim. Director Dmitry Krymov said his production is about the barbaric times when these old stories were first told: a time of starvation and violence, long before the prosperity of today. But the show’s dark humour is so immediate that yo uhave to think he’s being coy. Ages 8+
