Lyndsey Turner returns to the Donmar Warehouse to direct Brian Friel’s thrilling dramatisation of Ivan Turgenev’s 1862 novel.

Exploring the heartbreak of being a parent and the terrible compromise of growing up, Fathers And Sons charts the story of two young men, fresh from university, as they arrive at a country estate.

The son of a landowner and a charismatic radical, the pair’s warm welcome soon dissipates when an argument erupts between the host and one of his new guests.

Over the course of a summer, political ideals are tested by filial duty and the arrival of Anna, a mysterious visitor whose presence stirs the heart and threatens a friendship.

Director Turner, whose recent credits include hit plays Chimerica and Posh, reunites with Irish dramatist Friel following her production of Philadelphia, Here I Come! at the Donmar Warehouse in 2012.
