Sheffield Theatres’ fearless, funny and fabulous new musical sensation Everybody’s Talking About Jamie is a modern day fairytale based on the true story of a 16 year-old with a secret to tell – and dreams to realise.
With catchy new songs by Dan Gillespie Sells, lead singer-songwriter of The Feeling, and writer Tom MacRae, the musical the tale of Jamie New: sixteen, on the edge of possibility, not quite fitting in on a council estate in Sheffield… but with big aspirations. But supported by his brilliant loving mum and surrounded by his friends, Jamie overcomes prejudice, beats the bullies, and steps out of the darkness into the spotlight to become a sensation.
John McCrea reprises his role of Jamie, alongside the majority of the original Sheffield Crucible cast (including Daniel Davids as Levi, and Mina Anwar as Rayia ‘Ray’ Begum), in the West End transfer of this spectacular new British musical.
Everybody’s Talking About Jamie first came to fruition when the real-life Jamie (Jamie Campbell) approached a documentary film maker (Firecracker Films), asking if they would help him tell his story. The resulting film, Jamie: Drag Queen At 16, was seen by a theatre director, and inspired him to create a musical, backed by a producing regional theatre (Sheffield Theatres). The resulting show won two UK Theatre Awards in 2017, including Best Musical Production and Best Musical Performance (for John McCrea in the title role), with an eagerly anticipated West End transfer confirmed when Producer Nica Burns saw it and offered the show a run at the Apollo Theatre.
Everybody’s Talking About Jamie is directed by Jonathan Butterell, who saw the documentary film in question. This inspired him to create Everybody’s Talking About Jamie, a dramatised portrayal of a period in Jamie’s life which defined him as a sensation.
Don’t miss this uplifting, enlightening and invigorating new musical, guaranteed to leave everybody at the Apollo Theatre talking about… well…!
