Jane Horrocks leads the cast of Ayub Khan Din’s acclaimed drama East Is East, about family struggles in multiracial 1970s Salford.

Khan Din’s semi-autobiographical show follows Pakistani chip shop owner George ‘Genghis’ Khan, played by the playwright, as he struggles to give his children a strict Muslim upbringing. When household tensions reach breaking point, English mother Ella (Horrocks) struggles with loyalties divided between her husband and her children.

East Is East was first staged at the Royal Court 17 years ago before being made into a successful film.

Stage and screen star Horrocks is best known playing Bubbles in hit sitcom Absolutely Fabulous and for her breakthrough role in The Rise And Fall Of Little Voice, both on stage and in the movie adaptation. Her most recent London performances include Annie Get Your Gun and The Good Soul Of Szechuan at the Young Vic and Aunt Dan And Lemon at the Royal Court.

East Is East is the second show in the second Trafalgar Transformed season, following Richard III starring Martin Freeman.
