The Drifters Girl is a brand new musical starring the fantastic Beverley Knight. The new musical tells the tale of the world-famous vocal group The Drifters and the woman behind the scenes who made them. It will premiere at Newcastle Theatre Royal before transferring to the Garrick Theatre on 4 November for a limited 20-week season. As a brand new musical about such an iconic group and a trailblazing woman, The Drifters Girl tickets are sure to go like hotcakes.
Legendary soul singer Beverly Knight will play Faye Treadwell, The Drifters’ manager who spent three decades getting The Drifters to the top. The story of The Drifters is an emotional rollercoaster, from world tours and hit records to personal tragedy and intense legal battles.
A doo-wop, R ‘n’ B and soul coal group, The Drifters have had an ever-evolving line up since the 1950s, and have had over 60 vocalists in their history. Faye Treadwell took over management of the group after the untimely death of her husband in 1967.
Faye took The Drifters on to higher and higher successes, making them a household name by the end of the decade and inductees in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame by the end of the next. In 1993 they performed at the Whitehouse for Bill Clinton and in 2004 they were included in Rolling Stone’s Top 100 Greatest Artists of All Time. Faye’s daughter, Tina, still continues the legacy of The Drifters.
This is the story of the world’s first female African American music manager and her fight to never give up on the group that she loved.
Thirty years, and hundreds of hit songs later, there is no doubt that Faye Treadwell was and always will be, The Drifters Girl.
Look forward to high drama and an incredible soundtrack including Save The Last Dance For Me, Under The Boardwalk, Kissin’ In The Back Row Of The Movies, Stand By Me and Saturday Night At The Movies to name a few!
