Howard Brenton’s new play Doctor Scroggy’s War follows 19-year-old Jack Twigg on his journey to the trenches of the First World War and back.

Exploring his relationship with pioneering medic Harold Gillies, the founding father of plastic surgery, the play offers a sideways look at one of the most cataclysmic periods of the 20th century.

Brenton reunites with director John Dove following their collaboration on 2010’s Anne Boleyn at Shakespeare’s Globe.
