ROH2’s Classic Cut presents Shobana Jeyasingh’s hugely celebrated Configurations in an intriguing show of two halves, providing both a chance to revisit the past and to witness a bold new step into the future.

Configurations, acclaimed for its bravura use of speed and stunning detail, was the product of a unique and inspiring collaboration between Jeyasingh and composer Michael Nyman in 1989. Classic Cuts will give a unique glimpse into the very beginnings of Jeyasingh’s pioneering work as well as an insight into a stunning collaboration between composer and choreographer.

Nyman’s score (that became his acclaimed String Quartet no. 2) will be played live on stage, whilst Jeyasingh will present an atmospheric new work that will draw on the dramatic and colourful theatrical genre of classical Indian dance.  With an eye to the future the show will also feature newly commissioned music from young Indian composer and sound artist Niraj Chag, whose credits include Rafta Rafta for the National Theatre and Simon Schama’s BAFTA -nominated ‘Power of Art’ series for BBC 2.
