The Governor of Boston, Riccardo, hides a guilty love for his loyal friend and secretary’s wife, Amelia. A plot to overthrow him is closing in around him, but when the secretary, Renato, finds out about his friend’s secret lust, it is not just the conspirators that Riccardo should fear.

An all-new cast take to the Royal Opera House stage in this revival of last year’s production. Mario Martone directs Verdi’s ‘most operatic opera’, while Charles Mackerras – celebrating his 80th birthday on opening night – conducts.

Sung in Italian with English surtitles.
