Opening Emma Rice’s inaugural “Wonder” summer season as Artistic Director of Shakespeare’s Globe, the iconic venue is to be transformed into a mystical forest to host performances of this supernatural classic.

Promising to offer “a naughty, tender, transgressive and surprising… festival of theatre”, A Midsummer Night’s Dream tells the story of four runaway lovers caught up in the crossfire of a dispute between the King and Queen of the fairies, and their interactions with an unsuspecting amateur theatre troupe.

All the while, mischievous Puck flits between the groups, using a wicked sense of humour – and a little bit of magic – to cause all sorts of misdemeanours along the way.

With an enchanting woodland set designed by Lez Brotherston, London’s very Bankside will be taken over by this tale of music, dance and serious comedy.
