Our fave Olivier Awards performances for kids

Every year, we celebrate the best of the London theatre at the Olivier Awards, and besides announcing winners, the ceremony also includes a selection of brilliant entertainment including kids performances, which are always a hit.

The pure talent, drive and energy showcased on stage is awe-inspiring not to mention bucket loads of fun, so we’ve rounded up some of our fave Olivier Awards performances for kids from over the years. Which do you love the most? 

2014: Charlie And The Chocolate Factory

Check out this super sweet performance from the company of Charlie And The Chocolate Factory from 2014. Besides putting on a show-stopping performance, the musical won 2 Olivier Awards for Best Costume and the White Light Award for Best Lighting Design.

2015: Matilda The Musical

Matilda The Musical put on a fun, energetic and super cheeky performance of Naughty on the ITV stage in Covent Garden back in 2015. The family favourite has won a whopping 7 Olivier Awards (not to mention countless other awards!) and in 2015 specifically, received a nomination for the This Morning Audience Award.

2015: Billy Elliot The Musical

Billy Elliot The Musical pirouetted into the West End in 2005 a with nominations for an outstanding 9 Olivier Awards, winning 4, including Best New Musical. If you didn’t get a chance to see the musical while it was in the West End, this performance is well worth a watch!

2017: School Of Rock The Musical

If your little ones loved the movie, they’ll certainly love this guitar-bashing, drum-thrashing performance from the cast of School Of Rock The Musical. The family favourite went on to win the Olivier Award for Outstanding Achievement in Music the same night!

2018: Joseph And The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat

To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the biblical Joseph And The Technicolor Dreamcoat, the cast put on this colourful, powerful and super inspiring performance with appearances from Joe McElderry, Lee Mead and Jason Donovan as the title character. The show is a won the Olivier Award for Best Set Designer in 1992 and this year, is up for two nominations for the Best Musical Revival. Can you spot Jac Yarrow (plays the titular role in the revival) in the choir?

2018: Everybody’s Talking About Jamie

We can’t help but clap our hands and boogie along to this sassy performance of And You Dont Even Know It from the cast of Everybody’s Talking About Jamie.  The glittery, witty, highly inspiring show was nominated for 5 Olivier Awards in the same year, including Best New Musical.

2019: Disney’s The Lion King

To celebrate its 20th year in the West End, the cast of Disney’s The Lion King opened the Olivier Awards 2019 with Mastercard. Based on the 1994 Walt Disney animated feature film, the iconic musical was nominated for 8 Olivier Awards in 1999 and won 2, including Best Theatre Choreographer. Hit play to see this medley of live performances that is sure to have the little ones up on their feet!

2019: Six

Nominated for 5 Olivier Awards including Best New Musical, this modern retelling from the six wives of Henry VIII has seen sell-out shows far and wide, not to mention the soundtrack has been whipping up a storm in the UK pop charts. Here, you can watch the Pop Princesses take to the mic to rewrite their stories.
