The Railway Children wins Best Entertainment

Published 13 March 2011

The Best Entertainment Olivier Award has gone to the stage adaptation of children’s classic The Railway Children.

The innovative production was staged at the disused Eurostar terminal at Waterloo station, with the audience sat on either side of the line while the action was played out on the platforms and on moving stages running along the tracks.

The show, which returns to London in June, also featured a period steam train from the National Railway Museum and the Gentlemen’s Saloon Carriage from the famous film adaptation of E Nesbit’s novel.

The runners-up in the Best Entertainment category include Beauty And The Beast (National Theatre), Ghost Stories (Duke of York’s theatre) and Potted Panto (Vaudeville theatre).
