The Young Vic has announced that Gregory Nash, director of The Point in Eastleigh, is to succeed Executive Director Kevin Fitzmaurice in October 2009.

Nash, who joins the Waterloo venue as Fitzmaurice moves to the Royal Shakespeare Company, is a former dancer who has previously worked as the Programme Manager for Dance Umbrella, Drama and Dance Projects Manager for the British Council, Director of the Australian Dance Council, Producer for Northern Stage and, most recently, Director of Hampshire venue The Point.

Speaking about his appointment, Young Vic Artistic Director David Lan said: “Sad as it is to see Kevin Fitzmaurice leave us – and lucky RSC to be adding him to their team – I am delighted that Gregory Nash has agreed to join us. Gregory brings exactly the combination of skills and experience as artist and executive that we need to take us on into the next years of producing shows, nurturing theatre folk, greeting new audiences and contemplating and celebrating our contemporary lives, all of which is the daily business of the Young Vic. I am hugely looking forward to working with him.”

Nash added: “I’m thrilled to be joining David Lan at the Young Vic and am excited about the opportunity of working with him and his team. The Young Vic is a remarkable building with a broadly appealing and quality-driven programme that speaks to its community, that embraces the work of artists across a range of disciplines and that embodies a collaborative approach. I look forward to working with David and supporting his exciting vision for the future of the Young Vic.”

Though Nash joins the Young Vic in October, he will continue to oversee the creation of studio space Phase 3 at The Point until its official opening on 12 November. The launch will see Akram Khan present a special preview of his new Kathak dance piece Gnosis, which can be seen at Sadler’s Wells on 16 November.
