Woyzeck announces further casting

Published 30 January 2017

Further casting has been announced for award-winning playwright Jack Thorne’s adaptation of Woyzeck, the Cold War drama led by Star Wars actor John Boyega.

John, who plays the eponymous character, will be joined by Ben Batt (recent credits include A Streetcar Named Desire at the Royal Exchange Theatre) as Andrews, Nancy Carroll (The Moderate Soprano at the Hampstead Theatre) as Maggie, Sarah Greene (television’s Penny Dreadful) as Marie, and Steffan Rhodri (This House at the Garrick Theatre) as Captain. Further casting is to be announced.

In 1980s Berlin, the Cold War rages and the world sits at a crossroads between Capitalism and Communism. On the border between East and West, a young soldier and the love of his life are desperately trying to build a better future for their child.

But the cost of escaping poverty is high, and its tragic consequences unfold in this searing tale of the people society leaves behind.

Jack, whose recent work includes Harry Potter And The Cursed Child Parts One And Two, The Solid Life Of Sugar Water and Let The Right One In, breathes new life into the story by Georg Büchner, with direction from Joe Murphy.

Woyzeck plays at The Old Vic from 13 May – 24 June; you can book your tickets through us here.
