Idina Menzel, the American actress who originated the role of Wicked’s green-skinned leading witch for both Broadway and the West End, is to return to London for a Royal Albert Hall gig.
The one night only concert on 6 October will feature the Tony Award-winning star performing alongside the 60-piece Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra conducted by multi-award-winning Broadway composer Marvin Hamlisch.
The show, which brings Menzel back to the Royal Albert Hall for the first time since she appeared in Chess at the historic venue in 2008, will feature the US star performing a mixture of musical theatre and pop tracks for her hordes of British fans.
In addition to her performances as Wicked’s misunderstood enchantress Elphaba, Menzel has collected praise and fans for her appearances in hit musical teen drama Glee, her stage performances in RENT, The Wild Party and See What I Wanna See and as a recording artist, most recently releasing the album I Stand.
Hamlisch is notable as one of only two people, along with Richard Rodgers, to win an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony as well as the Pulitzer Prize. His film work includes the award-winning The Way We Were and The Sting, along with The Spy Who Loved Me, Sophie’s Choice and Three Men And A Baby, while it was his contribution to the Broadway production of A Chorus Line that jointly won him the Pulitzer Prize for Drama.
