Venues across the UK have been lit up in red over the last few days, to mark the anniversary of theatres closing due to the coronavirus pandemic.

International movement #WeMakeEvents organised a campaign to light theatres and other live events venues up in red as a stark reminder of this date, and all those in the industry who have struggled over the last year without their usual livelihoods.

Below you can find some of our favourite photos of theatres lit up in red. To find even more, search the #WeMakeEvents and #LightItInRed hashtags on Twitter and Instagram.

Alongside the Light It In Red campgain, #WeMakeEvents is creating a video fundraising campaign including Simon Callow, Mick Jagger, Katherine Jenkins and Christopher Eccleston. In video messages, the stars urge members of the public to donate to an appeal for members of the live events industry who have been hit by the pandemic.

Donations can be made to technical entertainment charity Backup by texting ‘ONETWO’ followed by the amount of the donation to 70085.
