A closer look at the Mastercard Best New Musical nominations

This has been the biggest year for London theatre in history. Not only did more people visit the theatre than ever before, the West End had some of the most diverse shows its ever seen. Theatregoers saw everything from rap to ballet, Dylan to drag. They even saw a full roast dinner cooked on stage. Some of the biggest names return to the London stage while a new generation of theatre superstars were born. Above all else, they experienced some of the best entertainment in the world.

The Olivier Awards category of Mastercard Best New Musical gives us the opportunity to celebrate the biggest and best productions of the year. And as so many game-changing shows flooded the West End, it’s no surprise that theatre attendance rose to a record-breaking 15 million. Take a look at the nominees below.
