Hand To God's Jemima Rooper

Video: Olivier April Fool’s special

First Published 1 April 2016, Last Updated 1 April 2016

We knew from his two Olivier Awards that Michael Ball had musical theatre talent. We knew from his former turns hosting the ceremony he was a superb presenter. But what we didn’t know is he’s also an award-winning trickster, according to Olivier Award nominee Emma Williams that is.

To mark April Fool’s Day falling two days before this year’s ceremony, we asked a selection of this year’s nominees about the best, biggest, most naughty trick that has ever been played on them on stage. From Elvis to bananas the answers had us in stitches.

Watch the video above to hear why Williams was unwittingly naked on stage before her current empowering appearance in Mrs Henderson Presents, how Jemima Rooper got caught out by James Corden and why a certain piece of fruit crops up to cause trouble for Phil Dunster.

The winners of the Olivier Awards 2016 with MasterCard will be announced in a ceremony at the Royal Opera House on 3 April. You can be part of celebration at our Covent Garden Piazza event that will feature live performances and a live stream of the ceremony. You can also watch extended highlights of the show on ITV at 22:15.
