An adventure story, a dark operetta and a seasonal dance show form the spring line-up at the Unicorn theatre this year.
Theatre Centre returns to the Unicorn from 10 to 14 March after success with its show Under The Bed last year. Jake & Cake is a new adventure story which follows Jake, who is missing his best friend after moving to the country from London. When he meets local girl Cake, her stories of strange magic and ancient myths send Jake into the woods in search of friendship and the path home.
The season continues with a gothic-style operetta by Finegan Kruckemeyer and Martyn Harry aimed at anyone who has ever done something they shouldn’t. My Mother Told Me Not To Stare, which runs from 17 to 21 March, centres on Bobby Rogers, the naughtiest kid in town, who makes it his mission to stop the local kids from vanishing into thin air.
Young children aged two to seven are catered for by Travelling Light theatre company, which follows the success of its Shadow Play with a new show, How Cold My Toes (7 to 18 April). Devised in collaboration with urban dance company Champloo, the show takes audiences on a journey through the four seasons, from the vitality of spring to the frozen fingers of winter.
Lastly, Oily Cart and Ockham’s Razor bring their show for young people with learning disabilities to the Unicorn from 23 April to 8 May. An interactive aerial show, Something In The Air allows participants to fly amongst the performers in the air in a unique kinaesthetic adventure.
The new shows join the already announced London Eye Mystery, which plays from 6 March to 18 April. Currently playing at the London Bridge-based children’s theatre is Christmas show Cinderella, which runs until 24 January and is followed by a Storytelling Season in February.
