To celebrate the return of theatre #BackOnStage, we’ve rounded up top five West End shows to see with your family.

Six

Mixing Tudor history with the sparkling energy of pop music, Six is a blistering theatre experience. Framed as a no-holds-barred pop band, each of the six wives of King Henry VIII battle it out to become the new frontwoman of the group based on who Henry loved most. From Anne Boleyn’s love affair to Anne of Cleves’ 6 month long marriage, Six is the perfect way to get your kids interested in history, as well as being super fun.

Disney’s The Lion King

If your kids are fans of the Disney film Lion King, seeing Zazu, Simba and Pumbaa come alive on stage is an unforgettable experience. Up there with some of the best productions of this century, Disney’s The Lion King is a brilliant spectacle for families and has already entertained over 15 million theatregoers. Need something spectacular to get the blood rushing after lockdown? The Lion King is the perfect tonic for all the family.

Matilda The Musical

Calling all Roald Dahl fans – we’ve got the perfect play for you. Matilda The Musical is based on Dahl’s famous children’s book, centering around the misadventures of Matilda Wormwood. After opening on the West End in 2011, the musical managed to snag seven Olivier Awards and has proven to be a box-office hit ever since. If your kids are big Dahl readers, Matilda The Musical is the production to watch with the family.

Joseph And The Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat

50 years ago, Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice’s concept album around Joseph and his technicolour dreamcoat was an immediate success. Half a century on, the foundations of musical perfection clearly remain the same. The production is still going strong and is ready to kick off summer 2021 at the London Palladium. If you’re looking for a guaranteed good time with the family, you can’t go wrong with Joseph And The Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat.

The Tiger Who Came To Tea

Whether you’re a kid desperate to see your favourite characters come alive or a parent looking for a dose of nostalgia, The Tiger Who Came To Tea will make the whole family feel warm inside. Based on the classic children’s book by Judith Kerr OBE, the Olivier-nominated production is celebrating its 76th year on the West End circuit. Packed with sing-a-longs and interactive fun, The Tiger Who Came To Tea will satisfy every member of the family.
