The Open Air and the Royal Court are both offering week-long workshops aimed at school leavers aged 16-19 who are interested in getting into the theatre industry. The Royal Court’s Summer Theatre Project focuses on playwriting, while the Open Air’s School Leavers’ Workshop covers all aspects of the theatre industry. Both are held on 20-24 August.

The Summer Theatre Project at the Royal Court is aimed at 16-19 year olds with a story to tell. Working with a playwright, a director and actors, the week helps participants to find a way to tell that story. A play is created in a week and performed at the end of the project. Places cost £50. For more information and to book, ring 020 7565 5034.

Meanwhile, the Open Air is holding a week-long intensive course which aims to introduce participants to every part of the theatre industry – from acting and directing to set and costume design, lighting and sound, theatre administration and marketing. Led by members of the Open Air theatre team, the sessions are highly interactive with participants gaining an overview of the whole operation at the Open Air. The participants’ information pack includes tips on how to get into the theatre industry and a ticket to the theatre. Places on the week-long course cost £60.
