Tell Us In Ten – Eve Norris

Published 20 September 2024

In our profile series Tell Us In Ten, we ask cast members and creatives of top London shows to tell us all about themselves in just 10 questions. From how they got their start in the industry to their favourite shows, we want to know everything.

This week we caught up with Eve Norris, who plays Miss Honey in the Royal Shakespeare Company’s Matilda The Musical. Winner of over 100 international awards, including 24 for Best Musical, Matilda has been delighting audiences in London’s West End for more than 12 years!

1. My route into theatre was…

I went to Stagecoach almost every weekend from the age of 6 to 16 – that’s where I fell in love with performing.

2. My West End idol is…

It’s impossible to choose! Everyone I’ve worked with who can work hard and have fun, while not taking themselves too seriously.

3. My colleagues would describe me as…

‘Dry witted, intuitive and warm’ – according to Tiffany Graves (Mrs Wormwood) herself.

4. My favourite show is…

Amelie is one of my favourite films and watching it come to life with such beautiful music and performances was amazing. I was so inspired by the actor-musicians, all I can play is the triangle!

5. The career moment I’m most proud of is…

This role: playing Miss Honey in Matilda The Musical! I never thought I’d get the chance to play such a beautiful role – I’m still pinching myself.

6. The hardest part about my job is…

The job is great, it’s the in-between jobs that are hard.

7. If I wasn’t an actor, I would be…

Maybe a midwife. The older I get the more I realise it’s crazy that any of us exist at all – every new life is a miracle (yes I am quoting Matilda The Musical). How amazing it would be to help bring new life into this world!

8. Something people don’t know about me is…

I spent the day before our opening night baking 150 cookies. My flat smelled great for two days and it helped to distract me from my nerves.

9. The best piece of advice I’ve ever been given is…

Take the note.

10. The one thing I wish I could tell my younger self is…

Don’t listen to the negative voice in your head. It’s telling you your worst fears, not the truth!
