This time we’re chatting to Trevor Ashley who is currently starring as Roger De Bris in The Producers – a joy-filled hit and the first major London revival of Mel Brooks’ cult classic film.
Trevor is also set for a special one night only performance of A Million Years Of Minnelli to celebrate the iconic Liza Minnelli turning 80 years old.
1) My route into theatre was…
Not the easiest. I was a fan first and went to youth theatre and acted and sang. It took me a long time to get my first show, but it happened to be Priscilla Queen Of The Desert The Musical.
2) My West End idol is…
There are too many!!! Dame Elaine Paige, Tracie Bennett, Caroline O’Connor, Kerry Ellis. All the divas.
3) My colleagues would describe me as…
Difficult. KIDDING! I don’t know. Loud, brash and hopefully funny.
4) My favourite show (that isn’t one I star in/work on) is…
Cabaret. I love that show.
5) The career moment I’m most proud of is…
Probably my Olivier nomination. It made me feel very special. Also: selling out the Sydney Opera House in concert was pretty great.
6) The hardest part about my job/role is…
I think just the energy it takes to do eight shows a week.
7) If I wasn’t an actor, I would be…
Probably in real estate. I’m a sucker for property.
8) Something people don’t know about me is…
I started out my career as an orchestrator and arranger. I in fact did the orchestration for the original production of End Of The Rainbow.
9) The best piece of advice I’ve ever been given is…
I think just be the nicest and most fun person who people will want to continue to work with.
10) The one thing I wish I could tell my younger self is…
You will do better the more yourself you are.
