In our profile series, Tell Us In Ten, we ask cast members and creatives of top London shows to tell us all about themselves in just 10 questions. From how they got their start in the industry to their favourite shows, we want to know everything.
This time we’re chatting to Olivia Rose Tringham who is playing Première Prêtresse in Iphigénie En Tauride this November, the rarely performed opera based on Euripides’ Greek Tragedy, that tells the story of Iphigénie as she dares to dream of finding her way back to her brother, Oreste.
1) My route into theatre was…
I have been performing since I could walk and talk, and my mum finally gave in and took me to tap and ballet classes when I was 4. She made me sing Somewhere Over The Rainbow for everyone who came to the house too. From there I loved music, dance and acting throughout school until I joined the Liverpool Philharmonic Youth Choir when I was 15. That was the first time I ever saw an orchestra in real life, which was my entry into classical music.

2) My West End idol is…
One of them has to be Jane Robinson, she’s head coach at English National Opera for the Harewood Artists and is a shining example of all the Repetiteurs who devote their lives to the music and theatre on the West End in the background, supporting so many incredible artists for generations.
3) My colleagues would describe me as…
An intense performer and a hard worker, but always up for a laugh and will always tell you the hard truth. And loud!
4) My favourite show (that isn’t one I star in/work on) is…
I recently saw Parcifal at the Royal Ballet and Opera which completely blew my socks off, but I think my favourite show I’ve ever seen has been Come From Away.
5) The career moment I’m most proud of is…
Making my English National Opera and West End debut in Dead Man Walking last year. The show was such an incredible piece of theatre and won an Olivier Award!

6) The hardest part about my job/role is…
The ups and downs of the career. It’s super hard to keep yourself level and centred in such a turbulent industry. You’ve got to have a great team and great colleagues around you.
7) If I wasn’t an actor, I would be…
I’d love to try my hand at casting.
8) Something people don’t know about me is…
I hated the first opera I ever saw!
9) The best piece of advice I’ve ever been given is…
“If you’re ever asked to sing from the side of the stage, make sure you ask for a music stand, because then they have to light you the whole way through.” – A Beautiful Diva.
10) The one thing I wish I could tell my younger self is…
Trust your instincts in everything. You know best, what’s best for you.
