In our profile series, Tell Us In 10, we ask cast members and creatives of top London shows to tell us all about themselves in just 10 questions. And because we’ve got some super shows in Kids Week 2021, we’re going to be giving you the chance to learn more about the people behind them in a special Kids Week Tell Us In 10 series.

This week we’re hearing from Emily Cooper, one of the puppeteers from Dragons and Mythical Beasts, a spectacle of puppets, mythical tales and fun for all the family at Regents Park Open Air Theatre.

Unveil a myriad of dark secrets and come face to face with some of the most magnificent monsters and terrifying beasts ever to walk the earth. Discover the colossal Stone Troll, the mysterious Indrik and Japanese Baku; the Tooth Fairy (not as sweet as you’d think), an adorable Unicorn and majestic Griffin. Take your place among legendary heroes, just don’t wake the Dragon…

1. My role is…

Puppeteer/Puppet Tech

2. My favourite thing about my roles are…

Making these big puppets come to life on stage.

3. My least favourite thing about my role is…

Getting up early, I’m a night owl!

4. The show is perfect for families to enjoy this summer because…

It’s big, fun and bringing mythical beasts to life.

5. I think Kids Week is a great initiative because…

It encourages more people to see theatre.

6. My earliest memories of theatre are…

Watching Button Moon and knowing that I wanted to be on stage doing that.

7. I always knew/didn’t know I wanted to work in theatre…

I knew I would work in the arts, but when I studied puppetry, I knew that it would happen.

8. The one thing I wish I could tell my younger self is…

Be more confident.

9. In my spare time I like to…

Cycle, run, climb, play guitar and sing. Hang out with my friends.

10. If I could have a superpower for a day, I would choose…

I would fly. Everywhere!

If you want to hear more about Emily, you can check out our interview with her back in 2010 here, when she was one of the puppeteers in War Horse!
