Summer, stories & Stig Of The Dump: five things we heard about this week

The Old Vic stage is currently dark in preparation for Groundhog Day, and so the theatre is running a host of exciting events as part of its Summer Social. These include organic food and wine tastings, pop-up kitchens and performances from The Old Vic 12 and Bards Without Borders, a group of poets from migrant and refugee backgrounds. Multi-award-winning playwright Michael Healey brings his controversial play, Proud, to the Finborough Theatre this July. A satire on the Canadian government, Healey’s play asks pertinent questions about the divisive and corrosive nature of politics. For more information visit the official website.

Clive King’s beloved children’s novel Stig Of The Dump is brought to life at the Arts Theatre this summer, starring Cbeebies presenter Katy Ashworth. Following a successful UK tour, the show promises fun and interactive story-telling for children of all ages. 12 winners have been announced in the Wicked Young Writer Awards, a competition hosted by the hit London show that encourages young people aged 5 -25 to express themselves via prose or poetry, Shortlisted entries demonstrated the social awareness of the entrants, including pieces discussing the refugee crisis, homelessness, prison and the environment.
